Trail centre: Betws y Coed
Length: 25km (15.5miles)
Start point: Llanrwst. Take the A470 out of Betws y Coed towards Conwy, turn left in Llanrwst and follow signs for the car park. Can also be started at any other point on the trail, for example Pont Banog.
Description: Excellent and challenging red graded trail. The singletrack sections are mostly short, but they are plentiful, giving the excitement in short sharp bursts with plenty of time to recuperate in between. The scenery is varied, and views out towards the Snowdon range are spectacular.
Good stuff: Almost all the singletrack sections are outstanding. The Ride Fast Ride Free and Pigs Might Fly sections are particularly good, and equally the scenery around the trail makes it doubly interesting.
Difficult stuff: Some of the climbing is very challenging, with features that I found impossible to ride. Equally there are some steep climbs on roads and fire roads that are tricky when tired. The Pandoras Rocks section is borderline unrideable for the bad mountain biker, and other sections have the occasional bit that presents a challenge.
Verdict: Excellent and satisfying ride.
